This is another favorite of mine! A personal favorite.

I love tea. Be it hot or cold ones. Green or red or chinese. Bottle, tea bag, tea leaves, dried flowers. I love them all. But there’s always a few which I call them my favorites.

This is one of them – my favorite bottled tea.

Lipton Ice Tea – Lemon favor. Bottle ones! This is again un-find-able in Singapore. I first try this in Malaysia two years ago and I have them every time I see it whenever I cross over that causeway. This is really a bottle of very flavorful ice lemon tea.

I love it cold/ chilled. A very good drink to have on a warm afternoon or just to chill the night away. Very normal looking and you might ask why not use the tea bags? Taste wise, it’s a no-fight. The blend between the famous red tea and lemon is just a very good balance and perfection. It doesn’t have that ‘dryness’ that some tea might have.

I can’t tell you how much I love this bottle of goodness. I was almost too reluctant to open this bottle. And yes, in case you are wondering, I really bought this bottle back from Bangkok. Two bottles actually. And I’m really happy I did.

Simple enjoyment
Just a nice chilled cup of perfect tea

We finally try this! I was kinda reluctant to try this favor alone as the packaging really gave the impression that the noodles is very spicy! And of course, it’s another air-flew instant noodles – Nissin 出前一丁 Super Hot Tonkotsu (spicy pork bone soup base) – from Bangkok.

I finally confirmed all these Nissin 出前一丁 noodles that I had been trying were from Hong Kong – see Nissin’s HK Web. Don’t you love the wide range of noodles that Hong Kong have? *heaven*

See, I’m not kidding when I say the package portrayed the noodles as super spicy. Even the noodles are in chilli red color!

Chilli-red noodles.

In that small little green packet, it actually contain chilli-red-colored-noodles, soup seasoning powder, seasoning sauce and chilli sauce. If you wanna try the noodles but worry about the spiciness of the soup, I guess you can forgo the chilli sauce. But it’s kinda wasteful ya? So throw everything in! That’s what we did.

Tada~ Cooked in no time. Especially it’s Mr Boyfriend who cooked this. Look very delicious.

I must really emphasis on these noodles. It really tasty and a slight spiciness to it. But the taste is still gentle to the taste bud. NICE~ But it was Mr Boyfriend lunch so I didn’t ‘steal’ too much from him. Just two spoonful. *such a nice girlfriend*

I must say this is seriously one of the best soup base I had had from instant noodles. It’s spicy from the look and packaging. But with that little chilli oil on the spoonful, the soup is actually very light. Just a slight spiciness. You can even taste sesame in the soup. Not very sure about the Tonkotsu part though. But I was really very satisfied with the soup base. Definitely one of the favor I will buy if ever to come across it again. Really a MUST TRY!

O yes, I really do recommend and like this Nissin 出前一丁 Super Hot Tonkotsu. Very interesting noodles and good favor soup, what else to ask from a simple meal of instant noodles?

I first saw the video of this sushi/ ice cream/ ramen/ fast food making stuffs on Youtube about a year ago. It was cool! But I didn’t really figure out what all this DIY ‘toy’ was about as the videos were in Japanese. But I saw a comment somewhere that this ‘toy’ decompose when left alone after a few hours. So I really have no idea whether is it edible or not. If no, why who anyone go through the ‘trouble’ of playing it. Just to see it decompose?

It was only after one blogger made a video about it that I realize these are actually really edible!

Mr Boyfriend surprised me with them one fine day! He bought a few sets for me to play with. And sushi seems to be easier and I had watched the video before so we decided to try our hands on this first. And also, it’s actually sugar candy/ jelly. Safe to be eaten.

All you need is in the box and a glass of drinking water. And someone who can read Japanese or one who can interpret instructions via pictures well. Or when in doubt, prepare and load the YouTube video first! I chose to try and interpret the pictures with Mr Boyfriend.

First we make the rice. Add water first to the part indicate 1.

Add the ‘rice’ powder and stir well.

Candy RICE! In touch it’s really FLUFFY! Just like cotton rice. Cool. So far so good.

Ok, next the Tuna! Nothing really hard. But I think I added too much water. The end product wasn’t ideal. Mix well and let it ‘set’/ harden.

It’s my favorite egg! I truly love the guy who invented this sweet Japanese egg. I added lesser water this time round. Mix well and leave it to set.

Ok, while researching for this post, I realized we made a mistake. Instead of going for the Fish Roe now, we should had ‘shape’ the sushi rice first. It had harden when we try to shape it after we finish the Fish Roe. So please please shape the rice before it harden. *lesson learn*

For the Fish Roe, there’s two compartment – A and B. There’s this powder to add into A that will ‘solidify’ the roe immediately so they won’t stick. It’s like making fish ball.

Mixing the orange mixture for the roe.

Making the Fish Roe is likely to be the most fun part of this whole toy set. I was happily letting each drop drop slowly down into the water and seeing it become small round balls immediately.

Tada~ Fish roe what are almost nearly ‘worthless’ comparing to the real ones.

All preparation done. Tuna, Egg, Fish Roe.

That black color piece is suppose to be the seaweed. But it was kinda hard to handle. And three big size sushi, as the rice had harden by now.

Gently remove the Tuna and Egg from the mould and place them lightly on top the rice or any other style you prefer. The Tuna broke while I remove it, due too much water I guess. And we managed to wrap the seaweed around one sushi. The Egg was near perfection.

O ya, before I forget. There’s even Soy Sauce for the sushi! This is how real the Sushi Set was. You got to give it to Japan. Only they can come up with this.

Tada~ Our completed Sushi Set. Pretty present looking I must say.

Now for the taste test. It look three brave people to try these fake looking food.
Fish Roe – We went with this first as it looked the most realistic. And guess what? It’s the closest to the real ones. The ‘roe’ really ‘pop’ in your mouth. Taste was normal.
Egg – Sweet with a hint of sourness. Otherwise pretty normal.
Tuna – The texture is really that of a real tuna! Rough. Doesn’t taste like one though.
Rice – Fluffy and chewy. Like hard cotton candy. Very interesting
Soy Sauce – Cola syrup.

So that ended our very interesting afternoon. Accomplished quite a lot in such a short afternoon – made three types of sushi!

It’s a pretty interesting ‘toy’ to play with. The enjoyment is during the process till deciding how the end product look like. And of course, trying and tasting something new. Good for both kids and adults. But I doubt parents will allow their kids to eat all the end product.

Would I buy again? Not really. But I would just to have a try on this.

In case you are wondering, Mr Boyfriend bought them at $10 each at a flea market in town.

I had enjoyable time makin’ sushi.

This is how much toy had evolved over time.

breakfast, grilled cheese sandwich, slice of cheese

I must confess. I’m a sandwich girl, especially anything with cheese. I can have it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and again the next day. Simple butter and jam sandwich is my best friend even when I’m sick and reject every other single food on earth.

But it took me a trip to Aussie + constipation and Subway to love non-white breads. But I love them now! The non-whites. Healthier.

I’m easily satisfied with melt-y cheese between two slice of toasted bread. But why not try something different? One of my friend had recommended trying grilled cheese sandwich. Found a recipe before and it wasn’t hard. So why not?

Ok, don’t laugh. I seriously have no idea how people does grilled cheese at home. I always though it can only be done on those hot plates in cafe. Till I searched and realized it can be easily done with a flat pan and butter. *p.s the photos are making me hungry for sandwiches right now*

It’s Sunday. Parents are out. And I have wheatmeal-white bread. So, I cracked up one egg and tada~ French Toast. Press it down harder, add a slice of cheese. Tada~ Grilled French Toast Cheese Sandwich, xTina’s Style.

Recipe (for 2 slices of bread)

1 egg
seasonings for egg (i used garlic salt and black pepper)
2 slices of bread

Method

1. Beat egg with some seasonings to taste
2. Soak each side of the bread with egg
3. Butter a non-stick flat pan and fry french toast as normal (i press it down hard to flatten the bread). Repeat with second slice.
4. Leave the second slice of bread on the flat pan, add a slice of your favorite cheese on top and cover with the first slice of bread
5. Wait for cheese to melt and press lightly
6. Serve hot (best when cheese is ooze-ing out)

I super love how the cheese is warm, soft and melt-y in between the two slices of bread. If there’s a slice of ham in between, I’m so gonna fell in love with it. Or even a slight sprinkler of sugar on the cheese will bring the taste buds to another level of excitement.

If there’s a rush of time, there’s always a simpler version. Two toasted bread and a slice of cheese. Less exciting but it still does have it’s own magic and attraction.

Throw in some fruits to make this an even more hearty breakfast. Or dinner for the matter.

Everyone loves a hearty meal to start the day
Who can resist cheese ooze-ing out of ANYTHING

Lipton Tea Cupcakes

food, lipton tea, plain flour

After buying so many foodie magazines, I finally bake something out from it. Like finally! Which is why I was so determined to bake this. At least I did not buy countless of magazines in vent.

Recently I’m hooked to BBC Good Food. And I saw this Chai Tea Cupcakes recipe from the Asian Edition – May 12. After searching online, I realized Chai Tea is some tea & spice mix. Which I don’t really think I will like. So I substituted it with Lipton Tea which I LOVE!!

I kinda love the dots of the tea in the batter. Till this part it looks like it will eventually be like the picture from the magazine. And to throw in something more ‘xtina’, I added fillings too. Jam, chocolate droplets and raisins. And this time round, there’s no knowing which favor you took.

And the baked ones does represent the ones from the magazine! *lucky me* But I must say I was a bit disappointed and know the cuppies had failed in giving out the Lipton Tea scent and taste of the well-like red tea.

But it still looks pretty doesn’t it?

Recipe (adapted from BCC Good Food Asian Edition May 2012)

1 tbsp Lipton Tea leaves (original used chai tea leaves)
225g plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
225g butter
225g sugar
4 eggs
125ml sour cream
jam/ raisin/ chocolate for fillings (optional)

Method

1. Pre-heat oven to 180degree C
2.Sift flour, baking powder and tea leaves (grind using pestie and mortar if not fine enough)
3. Beat butter and sugar till light and fluffy
4. Add eggs slowly and beat till combined
5. Add in 1/3 of flour and 1/2 of sour cream. And repeat till finish
6. Scope to paper case and bake for 20 – 25mins

There’s a disappointment in taste – can’t taste the Lipton Tea at all. But the sour cream did make this cupcake a soft one. If I doing this again, maybe I will use more Lipton tea leaves and leave it inside the sour cream. Hopefully it can help to ‘infuse’ some favors into it/ bring some favors out.

Nonetheless the fillings inside make up for the lack of taste.

Not something I will bookmark though. Unless I have some Chai Tea Leaves. Or maybe I can try with green tea powder. Next bake will be better! *cheers*

Disappointment is unavoidable
But there’s always a second try in baking
